ELIGIBILITY

A woman is eligible to join the Newcomers’ Club if she is a newly arrived or returning resident to the Metropolitan New Orleans area, which is designated as Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St. Charles and Plaquemines parishes, provided she joins before the expiration of the two-year anniversary of residency.

Residents in this designated area for a period of more than two consecutive years since their legal age of twenty-one (21) shall not be eligible to join.

Once a year, in the month of September, an exception shall be made. Those residing in the designated membership area, who have not previously been members, shall be allowed to seek membership.

Natives of the Metropolitan New Orleans area are eligible to join only if they have maintained a residence outside the Metropolitan New Orleans area for a minimum of five (5) consecutive years. They are then able to join the Newcomers Club during the open enrollment in September.

Fifty-eight years ago a group of ladies called the New Orleans Hostess Service saw the need for an organization to welcome new people into the community, offer them friendship and entertainment, and provide them with the opportunity to use their talents and experiences to make a place for themselves in their new city.
